I don't think colleges look at your criminal record. At least I don't remember it being a question on any of my application. However, a criminal record can greatly affect how much financial aid. If you have a felony on your record you become inelligible for financial aid.

It depends on the school. If you are planning on going to Harvard or Yale or even a private school then I would say yes they probably check that and it would effect you getting accepted. However, if you are going to a smaller University it probably wouldn't have as big of effect. Someone said it effects financial aid. I'm not sure about that one. I haven't ever heard of that, but it probably depends on what is on your record, and how long ago it happened. Good luck. Going to school is a much better way to better yourself. When you decide what school to go to go and talk with admissions and financial aid. Just say "hey, look I have made mistakes in the past I want a good education and to move on with my life. I am trying to better myself and I have served my punishment for my crime." They will listen and its their job to help.

I sure hope so. Especially the good ones. They want their students to succeed, and not be drop out statistics. But, I guess it would be the age one was when one acquired the record. Best of luck.
