Watched on touch down about 200 yards from my daughter and I when we were in Castle Rock, Colorado in 1987. That was more than close enough for me. While we were in Denver there was one that tore up the city and we were a mile away. We moved that year back to Washington State.

I have never been in an actual tornado, but I have been in some very scary situations. One in particular stands out. The tornado didn't actually touch down, but we got the winds from it. There was a lot of damage in my neighborhood as well as surrounding areas. An 18 wheeler that was parked on the Wal-Mart parking lot was blown over. Debris blew on top of my house and tore the roof up. It started leaking and we had just gotten it reroofed. We had to have it done again. Blew our brand new trash can away. We found a bunch of other trash cans in our yard, but not ours. A tree blew over on a house 2 blocks from us and trapped people inside. It was very scary. I was in a wheelchair at the time because of surgery on my feet. Believe me, I forgot all about the wheelchair that night. Another time, I was at a friend's house. They were giving tornado warnings out every few minutes on TV. The siren went off and the sheriff came through the apartment complex telling everyone to get to safety. What do they do? Instead of taking shelter, they run outside to watch. I think I was the only person inside with my friends children. When I did go out to see what was going on, I saw the funnel cloud. After about a minute, it started going back up into the sky. Those 2 times really stand out. I was also in another situation that didn't involve a tornado, but straight line winds. That was the most eeriest feeling I ever had in my life. I never want to experience that again. I never want to experience a tornado again, but where I live, I'm pretty sure that's bound to happen.
Sorry, this is so long!
