The only thing I can tell you here is to be careful, use jack stands. and remember that the transmission weighs > 150 lbs. and it isn't like bench pressing the same weight. It is very awkward.
Use a transmission Jack, or at least a GOOD quality floor jack.
Obtain the repair manual for the pick-up, or at least go to the library for information. READ the procedure. Then read it again. When you are done, read it again. Read it well enough that you can outline the procedure in your own words. Don't try to remember SPEC's, because you will have the manual to refer to.

Not sure if you have the AODE or E40D transmission, but if it's the E40D and you are going to do it yourself without a lift, I advise getting some help because that is one heavy beast. My two biggest guys strain when having to move one of those from the trans jack to the rebuild table.
Anyhow, there are a couple of people on EBay that have really good prices on dyno tested rebuilt transmissions with warranties.
And here is some other websites:

http://www.jonko.com/auto_parts/auto_part_store/main/transmissionsjford/index.html
Keep in mind that a rebuild on an AODE trans usually runs around $1000 if there is not any substantial hard parts torn up inside, and a rebuild on an E40D trans usually runs around $1200 without substantial hard parts torn up. The E40D trans is really bad for trashing the planetary assembly and that assmebly runs around $500 alone.
Good luck.

Its very hatd task if youve never done this before. or not mechanically inclined. if you answer yes to these then i would say have it done. best place to find a used one is salvage yard they will sell you the tranny and install it for you. good luck also if you are mechanically inclined then its not really that bad just time consuming is all.
