I read lots of questions and answers.

Most of the answers are the same, just repeating what a prior answerer said. Plenty get thumbs up. Then I always come across one answer that is really brilliant and nothing, NADA. no thumbs up.

Why? Do the good answers scare the average pea brain?

It's a valid point but to many it may be an afterthought.

I answer often here, and usually with validity, yet when I go back through Q's I see some pretty inane answers that get PICKED.

Rating also has no real effect and rarely affects the questioner, or answerer.

Keep in mind,,,for many this is an attention getting vehicle. Foe some it's a time killer. For others it's a way to actually attempt honesty, decency, validity, in giving answers that might actually help produce a positive outcome, even if they have extra time to spare that could be spent elsewhere.

I notice many questioners, don't rate their answers. I notice BEST is often chosen by voters. Does that mean that the question, wasn't anymore than a time killer? I don't know.

I also notice that many questioners want very susinct, short answers. Perhaps even one word answers in some cases? AND,,,smiles,,,ONE more thing since you brought this to the table. I am constantly amazed by questions that could so easily be asked, or researched by doing a WWW general search, using a browser and keywords.

Not to sound ego centered, but if this were a pay as you ask site,,, I'd be OK with the checks in my mail box, but would shy away from irreverent answers I often give as a challenge to the "Pea Brains"

So sayeth Steven Wolf

Pea brain? Did you over-estimate the typical User of this site?

From what I understand the typical User is here to play a Game. It is not the same Game for every User.

For some they are so busy playing the "I know the answer to that" Game that they do not even bother to read what anyone else has responded. These people do not evaluate Questions or Answers. They tend to just post Answers.

For some Users, they are into the Competition Game. They want to Answer and Vote, but only because these gather Points. These people tend to Thumbs down other Answers more than they Thumbs up any.

For some, the site is part of a social Game. These Users tend to travel in packs and tend to blast anything they do not agree with and totally agree on all Answers which conforms to the dogma of the pack. These Packs often Answer the same Questions and tend to Thumbs up each other in the process.

There are some incredible Questions and often these do get very remarkable Answers. This site does have great potential. But watch how many Thumbs this answer gets, just because of the first line above. This should tell you something about the typical User.

People are naturally afraid to go against the tide. They would rather follow than lead. Also it could depend on what your avatar or 360 is. If people do not like the picture or even the name they will give a thumbs down. I experience this often, not because my answer is good or bad but because I am Pagan and make no effort to hide it. Many from other religions (specific religions will be nameless) feel that a thumbs down is an appropriate opportunity to show their disapproval of my spiritual choice.

Reasons:
1. Not all people have a high IQ to see the best answer out of thousands of answers.
2. Not all people have the same wavelength on what is best and on what is not.
3. Some people perhaps felt that the answer is really true that it scares the hell out of them because it makes them feel guilty, in the case of pretty sensitive questions. So the initial reaction is to ignore that answer and select another in order to get rid of guilty feelings.
4.OR they really don't know what they're doing (don't worry, only the minority fall in this criteria and it doesn't include you).

I certainly have by twist of destiny thumbed down solutions i certainly meant to thumb up. next time you get a TD, in basic terms anticipate it truly is me, with my thumbs the place my hands are meant to be. As to why somebody could pass by using and TD each answer? i'm uncertain. i've got often concept the only answer without TD may be the perpetrator, and definitely fishing for a "maximum suitable answer." it somewhat is so clean, nevertheless. I infrequently assign maximum suitable answer on how many thumbs of any kind an answer has. I certainly have considered circumstances the place the asker had a bias and wanted in easy terms particular varieties of solutions (in "faith and spirituality" and in "politics," yet i think of in all risk happens all over the board the place there are strongly divided critiques) and seems to thumb down all people who don't adjust to the prejudice. i think of, nevertheless, that littering is the main suitable analogy i've got considered.

Some answers only apeal to some people. One oerson might like intelectual long answers, some people might just like short stupid easy to understand answers. It also matters what answer the person os hoping for. If you give someone a really good answer correct answer, but its the opposite of what they wanted to hear, there not going to to like it. Some poeple are just to dumb to understand what the person with the answer is talking about. People are different, you cant judge everyone just by what they pick.

Most people are very stupid regarding one particular question. It is simply due to the fact that the majority of people can't be specialized in a particular area, and therefore usually don't know the correct answer.
In that case, the most widely accepted answer is naturally the most voted on.

prolly because of complacency...one follows suit..all little lemmings in a row...seldom are people willing to take a stand...to do what they know is right?...why?..because they choose to live in fear rather than become unique...great things happen to those who do great things...no one will notice a person who just goes along w/ the crowd..I charge anyone who is just willing to play it safe...you will never rise to the top...you will always be second best...you will never know what it means to be someone important...to be someone who is remembered...to be someone who is held in high regard...to rise up...to achieve greatness...to be the person you were meant to be...maybe there are those who just werent given encouragement...just werent given a chance...just trodden upon when it came their turn...to those people i would say...you have my ear...I am willing to listen...I am willing to try and understand what you are saying..."I" am...I respect those who have the courage to implement their "own" ideas...to go against the book...to shoot for the stars...to do what they know is right no matter how it looks to those who would be unwilling because it goes against the grain of their peers...to this end I would give that person my support, even if that means being shunned by society...I speak of courage...something that is not talked about much lately...why?...maybe because it isn't "appropriate" ...to that i would say courage is the only thing that is appropriate...

There is no judging "good taste". And some answers no doubt are beyond some of the younger participants in the group.
