In a midrange graphics card, there's absolutely no need for spending the extra money on a 512MB version. Often the 512MB version of one card will cost the same, or even more, as the 256MB version of a better/faster card.

The best value out in graphics cards right now are the X1900 GT's and XT's: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?DEPA=0&type=&Description=X1900GT&Submit=ENE&N=0&Ntk=all Of course, if you can wait another week or two, the X1950 Pro is supposed to be hitting the market, which is supposed to be as fast as the X1900XT, while having the same MSRP as the X1900GT.

I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree with the above 2 posters. They seem very knowledgeable about building computers. But, I'm a hardcore pc gamer and builder, and The new games out there are made to utilize 512 mb video cards. If you want to see all the effects and detail, you should either do an SLI with 2 cards that are 256 MB, or one high-end card that is 512 MB. Sure you'll get better framerate with a x1950 high end card, but you will get better gaming with a 512 MB card. You don't need more than an average of 30 or 40 fps to have a smooth game. It's the image quality that makes it more immersive and realistic. So my recommendation would be either 2 nvidia 7900 gt cards, or one x1900 512 MB card.

I agree with the above poster. Most mid-range cards really don't have enough power to fully utilise the 512MB of memory. You really are better off getting better modeled 256MB card instead for the same, or even less, money.

relies upon on which video games might want to you play. if you're an off-the-cuff gamer and play in simple terms previous video games like CounterStrike and GTA san andreas then its more suitable than adequate. if you're a confusing middle gamer searching for the glittering titles like Mass result, Battlefield , Crysis then evaluate a minimum of one million GB
