I work a job where I stand all the time for 8 hours a day , 5-6 days a week. Recently my foot has had some mild burning sensation to it, particularly at the top region, spread out, but I have been ignoring it. Tonight, as I got out of my car and stood up, I felt a very severe burning sensation, much worse than before on my foot in the same area...like something exploded in there...just wondering what it may be before I head to the doctors. Please don't tell me to go see the doc, because I will, I just want to see what it may be first. thanks.

The burning feeling you're experiencing is called parasthesia. It may be arthritis. It's most likely NOT athlete's foot, because that burning sensation is concentrated on the sole of the foot. In my opinion, it's most likely sensory peripheral neuropathy. This results from damage to the nerves that transmit sensation to arms, hands, legs and feet. It is known to be a serious cause of chronic burning feet. Some of the causes of sensory peripheral neuropathy are diabetic neuropathy, alcohol abuse and vitamin b12 deficiency anemia. Your standing 8 hours a day may be either causing it or worsening it. You may have put too much strain on your metatarsal tendons. I know you said that you didn't want to hear this, but stop wasting time, and go to a podiatrist. If the problem is too much strain on a nerve, it could result in permanent numbness if left untreated.

sounds like something to do with the muscles in your feet. Might want to change footwear like lower/flat heels and softer soles. When you are on your feet there is constant pressure in your feet but when you are sitting/driving the pressure is relieved. So when you get up again you are putting high pressure back again.

When you are at home, soak you feet in hot water with some epsom salt. Lightly massage it and when you lay down, keep your feet level or slightly higher than your heart to aid in circulation.
