Yes of course. And just an advice: If you go and want to change a check into money, German banks will charge you. Only exception: "Deutsche Reisebank" - this is a special bank which you will find at nearly every station and airport (www.reisebank.de). Also the opening hours are different: Regular banks in Germany have opened from Monday until Friday from 9 am - 4 pm (On Thursdays 9 am - 6 pm). The "Deutsche Reisebank" is opened 7 days a week from 8 am - 6pm or sometimes (on bigger stations) 10pm.
And another thing: If you ever are in an emergency case and need money from abroad (e.g. Canada or the States), the "Deutsche Reisebank" co-operates with Western Union and people can send you money immeately. Also every post-office in Germany (9 am - 6 pm from Mo-Fr, and on Sat 9 am -noon) co-operates with Western Union.
The most accepted credit card here is VISA and Mastercard, though credit-cards are not as common as in North America. We in Germany still prefer to pay cash.
If you need any more information, just let me know :-)
Greetings from Düsseldorf, Germany !!!
