Just do 72 / 9 x 7 = 56 were cordial

Ratio is 16/56 Which is equal to 2/7. 2 gruff, 7 cordial

First of all, one ninth = 1/9 and two ninths = 2/9

a.) # of cordial billy goats = 72 * (1 - 2/9) = 56
b.) # of gruff billy goats = 72 * 2/9 = 16
So, the ratio is 18:56, and then simplified to 2:7
But the faster way to find the ratio is to use the two ninths and seven ninths (1 - 2/9). You will get 2:7 from that too.

Hope it helps.
