I have had my 20 gallonn aquarium running for about 50 hours now. I washed the gravel and everything, so I don't know. I heard from others that it's some kind of bacteria... which is usual for a new aquarium. How soon should it go away, and will it hard my 3 long finned danios I have in there, helping to speed up the cycling process?

Very - the nitrogen cycle is getting under way, but I would like to encourage you to get the fish out of there, and do a fishless cycle. Here is some information for you on how that is done...

Good luck!

A new aquarium set up always has a problem and so does a new aquarist, also it does not go off like that.

Do 10% water change immediately.

Have you set up any type of filter if not get a filter fitted imediately (internal box type), when you do a water change put a Bio (Undergravel) filter thats the best.

Water also gets cloudy due to over indulgence by over feeding, using raw food like egg yolk, bread crumbs et. Use commericial pellets/flake etc. Food be given only that much that the fish eat in 2 to3 minitues. Remember Hungary Fish - Healthy Fish.

Get a Acraflavine remedy from the shop and use.

Yes it is a normal part of the cycle. Just let it run it's course. The water will clear up when a balance is created by the bacteria. Good idea to have fish in there as they are required for the cycling process. I normally put some inexpensive fish in for the cycling process as the ammonia & nitrite levels spike and this can kill your fish...keep an eye on it if you don't want to kill the danios.

The tank needs to cycle. Just leave it alone as hard as I know it is. I have four tanks: a 70 gal. ,30 gal.,10 gal. , and a 5 gal. I suggest you google tank cycling to get the right answers as to how long a 20 gal,. tank will take to cycle. Be sure your water conditioner will treat chlorine, chloride, nitrates, and ammonia. Ammonia is what sometimes adds to the cloudiness during cycling. when you search for it they will tell all about this. Be sureyou have aquarium salt as it will help to alleviate some of the stress of cycling.

yep this happens with new aquariums. Its due to an imbalance of good bacteria. Put some water from another aquarium in or get a few plants

It is a floating bloom of bacteria and will clear up within four days. It means that there is an increased amount of ammonia in the tank which will stress your danios, but they tend to be hardy. I would suggest skipping two days of feeding to reduce the amounts of pollutants (fish poop) in your tank while the bacteria grow to sufficient numbers.

yeah...that's normal!!!
just leave it alone. it will eventually clear up. U can buy the stuff that'll help your tank build "good" bacteria but really if you just leave it alone...it'll clear up. Don't feed the danios too. If you think u really have to.....give them a pinch of food.....a small pinch ok! Danios are hardy...they will be fine. Just wait a few more days ok.

It sounds to me like your ph is all messed up. I suggest that you take some water in a clean cup and go to your local pet store and have them test the water to see if your water is unbalanced and what is making the water so cloudy. If you don't want to do that then do a 40% to a 50% water change, and clean the filters again. That should do the trick.

Try using Cycle or Stress-Zyme or some other bacterial filter enhancer. It can take up to a week or two for the cloudiness to go down.

no this is not normal if ur fish is not eating properly and the left over food cause cloudiness. so if u r feeding feed that much only which ur fish will able to eat. bye
