First, I am not a doctor, but my bro is bi-polar and I've been helping him for years. A lot depends on just how borderline we're talking about. You would be amazed that many symptoms tagged "personality disorders" are nutrition related.

Poor nutrition can put your system in a state of imbalance with severe symtoms that look like mental illness. There are lots of various meds out there [Lithium, Haldol, etc.] but if at all possible, check with a nutritionist.

Someone before me seemed to equate bipolar disorder with borderline personality disorder and they aren't related at all. They are totally different and have different symptoms.

Anyhow.... borderline personality disorder is a result of an inconsistent and often traumatic upbringing that creates a pattern of inflexible personality traits which cause problems in an adult. These traits involve unhealthy behavior patterns which affect social relationships and self-esteem greatly. Medication will not help this. It may help with depression but this is not a necessary component of BPD.

Personality disorders are not deemed to be "cureable" but they are treatable. A good psychotherapist can help the individual live a more happy, healthy, and functional life through recognizing how their past affects who they are now.

I won't sugar coat it and say that there is a lot of changing going on for those with BPD. They tend to be very rigid in their ways and unwilling to try things other ways. But i will say there is always opportunities to improve themselves and have a better understanding of who they are so they can live a better life. For whatever reason you ask this... good luck!

Medication alone is unlikely to be effective with borderline personality disorder. A treatment that has proved quite effective and very promising is dialectical behaviour therapy. I would suggest finding a therapist that is competent specifically in this model of therapy. This condition should not be treated without a mental health professional.

Personality Disorders are rarely diagnosed alone, usually there is also depression, bipolar, anxiety, or psychotic disorders present. Medication doesn't really help with BPD, because it is due to how you perceive and behave. If medication is prescribed, it is for the disorders listed above.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is designed specifically for the treatment of BPD.
"Clients receiving DBT were significantly less likely to drop out of therapy, were significantly less likely to engage in parasuicide, reported significantly fewer parasuicial behaviors and, when engaging in parasuicidal behaviors, had less medically severe behaviors. Further, clients receiving DBT were less likely to be hospitalized, had fewer days in hospital, and had higher scores on global and social adjustment." (reference below)

Well you could get a mood light or you could see a good councelor. I recommend a good Biblical councelor. Or a Christian Councelor. But of course if you aren't into the Christian thing then find a good trustworthy Psychologist. Quite an oxymoron huh? You could find out from a doctor if there is any meds available for that disorder.

What drugs do is dissociate one from the thoughts sent to ones brain by ones MIND that are part of the symptoms one identifies as ones disorder.

Successful treatment would be to make empathic contact with the conflict within a persons MIND realm, and encourage that persons MIND to release that which that MIND is refusing to surrender to the Esotransmutation Process within that person.

Peace
