Are you sure it is bullet?
"The following Web pages discusses our research into the beautiful phenomena of "light bullets," intense stable spherical pulses of laser light travelling through certain bulk glass and gaseous media. We think that regardless of one's scientific background, the movies and images presented below are extremely aesthetically pleasing. Every attempt has been made to keep the sections that follow as simple as possible, but to paraphrase Einstein, no simpler. The colour coding in the movies and images represents the intensity of the laser light. It is important to realize that actual light bullets, which are approximately a few millimeters in diameter, do not have well-defined boundaries - the sharp edges are an artifact of the visualization process. Finally, the simulations are B conducted in a reference frame that is moving at a velocity in the vicinity of 0.6 times the speed of light. That is, don't expect to see a light bullet floating stationary in front of you in the near future!"

So? Bullets are cool. Lasers make it seem to corny. And the sound effect for bullets are awesome. They also probably made it bullets so it seem like the covies have more of an advantage over us.

Well they kill pretty well now, so I'm sure they kill just as well in the future too.
