May 3, 1999 | The 28-year-old traveler was tall, with rough hands, a chiseled jaw and unforgettable, deep-set, melancholy eyes. He arrived in town, his worldly possessions in two battered suitcases, and inquired at a general store about buying some bedding. But the price was far beyond his budget. The strikingly handsome 23-year-old merchant took pity on the man and invited him into his own bed, free of charge, which happened to be just upstairs. Soon I Hope. I'm sick of the "good, straight and religious family oriented" politicians. obviously, they're not getting us anywhere different. we need someone with new ideas and an open mind to lead a nation of diverse people.

Customs change and unrelated men, often even related men, do not share beds anymore--in Western civilization. To read that Lincoln may have invited a traveler to share his bed is no more conclusive of homosexuality than if he had shared a pipe or a jug of his favorite alcoholic beverage. To read that with today's customs and practices is as bogus as believing all the signs along the American east coast "Washington slept here"--then concluding that since he slept around a lot he was constantly unfaithful to his wife, which history does not bear out either. It is a logical problem rooted in a lack of historical perspective.

Lincoln was most probably bisexual, not gay. And there is far more evidence pointing to his attraction to men than just sleeping with other men in the same bed.

James Buchanan is believed to be president who was solidly in the gay camp.

Abe was not gay. It was not unusual back then for men to sleep in the same bed. If you knew history, you'd know that.
