The cow was owned by a lady name Ms. Larry. The story goes that she went to milk the cow and as she did the cow knocked over a lattern. All i know is that happened in chigaco in the early 1900's i think in the 20's as it burned it took down half the city with it. If anyone can give me the cows name and where to find it so i can print it out it would be a great deal of help.

It was Mrs. O'Leary, and the cow's been reported to have different names: Daisy, Madeline, and Gwendolyn.

Here's a website:

The person in question was "Mrs. O'Leary." The story has been discredited as myth. I've heard the story many times, but don't ever recall hearing any name given to the cow! The event was the Great Chicago Fire, which burned from October 8 - 10, 1871.

O Leary's cow. I am from chicago. I know this. No one knows the actual name of the cow. We were taught chicago history every year in elementary school and took trips to see the remaining pieces and melted objects of the fire at the Chicago Historical Society.
