Because, generally-speaking, Toyota has been better run than Subaru over the past 50 years.

Subaru owners have often lamented the fact that Subaru marketing is not as good as it should be. That's a major issue as well.

Its all about marketing. Now that Toyota owns part of Subaru that should change. Suabru marketing should improve. Subaru quality is great. Fuji heavy industries ownes the majority of subaru (japanese for come together) The range of models is not as plentiful as Toyota. Subaru is available only with AWD and they only have 5 models in comparison to toyotas 11.

personal preference. most subaru's are awd, which kinda hurts the fuel economy. both are very reliable. subaru's are a little more "aggressive" in appearance, whereas most common toyotas are more refined. and, as stated before, toyota has more history than subaru in the usa, so most people will go with what they know.

The company's predisposition is rather domestic and they haven't changed their company's name as western style.
Subaru is not company name. is just a brand. The name is Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd.
And their design is so called "hicksville". Actually some of models are old fashioned compared with Toyoya and Honda.
However, there are many enthusiasts of Subaru in Japan.

They are also manufacturing for Airbus A380 and Boeing.
