First I would immediately download, install, and run both Spyware Blaster by javacool software:
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
&
CWShredder :http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4086.html

I would also consider using spybot search & destroy for both scanning & real-time protection:
http://www.safer-networking.org/
Spybot s&d can tie up ram, and get in the way of using the computer every now & then, so You might also consider just running manual scans with adaware:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php

All the programs mentioned here are FREEWARE. Oh, yeah - TURN OFF system restore if running Win XP!!! Otherwise, if you restore the system - you'll restore the spyware along with it. Hope this helps!

Nope, it's not a virus or a trojan horse.

What you are seeing is "sponsored" search results. They are from advertisers who pay Yahoo to place their links at ther top of the search results.

It is the same way with most of the major commercial search engines. For example, Google often places sponsored ads both at the top and right side of their results.

Advertising is how search engines make much of their money.

go to htp.research.com sounds more like your search is too broad so you need to narrow and define your search by using key words and even these symbols<>to narrow it but I did a quick IE search-the magnifying glass and asked how do I get exactly what I am searching for and several websites that help you put in key words and so on.

you probably have a virus; you should get a good computer tech to go through it before you go much further, because you know how they can ruin your world with their devious games. Also, check how you have your browser set, because that will also make a difference in how your results show up.

Do you have Norton Anti-virus or some other similar program? If so, just run a full system scan. The software should isolate the infected files and treat them accordingly.

Best of luck!

It is a virus! You'll need to get ad-aware or anti-virus AVG is good and it's free. Other than that. The more you use your computer the worse it can get also you send it to other people. I had to delete my hard drive and reenter everything. So good luck.
