I bought a pack of cigaretes then I was chargeed 218 dollars. I checked later on that it was being charged for a transaction that the guy in front of me made. I payed by debit and the man payed by cash. My intention was to buy a pack of cigarettes so i didnt keep the repeipt. Now I contacted Walmart and they went through the tape. They saw me paid for the pack of cigarettes and LEFT. Now they told me They can't return the money because I dont have the receipt. Can I do anything about this. The only evidence of referance I even have is the Walmart charges on my debit card and the VIDEO TAPE. Can I do something about this? or no?

Walmart knows that it was the clerks fault.

Its obviously a theft. Report it to the police and call your bank to report the fraud.

I would go back to wal-mart. Ask for the person that handle transactions after it leaves the cash register. Not the store manager. Explain what has happened. That other guy got her purchase for a lot less then he payed for it. Then see if the person can find yours and his transaction. It should not be hard. It would be the last 4 digit of your card number. You may need to tell them it was a MasterCard or Visa if used as a signature transaction.

If they will not help you.
Your bank can provide you with a copy of the receipt for a fee.

Then if there is still a problem. Dispute the charge with the bank.

Try to be calm when doing this. So they will not throw you out of the store or bank.

The debit transaction from your bank can tell you where you made your purchase. When you contacted walmart they should have known that 218 was way too much for cigarettes. When you get the bank transaction get them to pull the transaction tape for the date and will show the amount that will match up with yours which they will not be happy to do but....it was there mistake and you as a customer request this. If it isn't done call the cooperation for Walmart stores.

The problem with not having the receipt is they don't know for sure that you didn't buy anything else with those cigs.. or that you even did get overcharged! But I would suggest getting a statement of transactions from your bank (with date and preferably time of the transfer from WM - if the time isn't on there it's best if you have an idea of what time this transaction occured) ..then take it to WM and ask to speak with the office manager (or whoever else is in charge of the money and transaction stuff) Explain what happened and ask them if they can look up journals (hopefully) to verify what was bought (this is why knowing the time helps!) They SHOULD be able to do this for you (maybe not right then and there but within 2-3 days) and hopefully return your money.

(If not you'll have to go with another method, but I'd say try this first.)

Walmart has the THE best data collection system in the world BAR NONE! If they wanted to they could tell you exactly what happened. If they can tell you how many crayons are on the shelf in China in real time, they can figure it out if they want. Get transaction details and time stamps from the bank. Then get the GM involved and don't leave until you get your money back, the idea being, his time is valuable make him waste more than 218 dollars of store time dealing with you, and he should pay you just to get you out of his hair.

go straight to the bank and dispute it...you don't need a receipt

i lost my wallet last month and 2 fraudulent charges showed up on my next statement ( i lost a visa debit card) i presented the statement to the banker, signed a paper, they are currently investigating the charges. They said if it was fraudulent, every cent of it would be returned to my account. kinda same principle, in your case
after i got my money back, i'd trek back to walmart just to tell the customer service lady in a loud voice " NO WORRIES ABOUT THAT MONEY YOU STOLE FROM MY ACCOUNT, THE BANK PAID IT BACK! add insult to injury for fun ( if security isn't already helping you out the door) tell Doris-associate-35yrservice that you understand its hard to remember everything on your first day
I HATE WALMART! probably a good thing i never go there!

Wow, I am sorry this is happening to you. Go back to Walmart & ask to talk to that persons boss's boss, then that persons boss, really go as high up as you can. This is insanely unfare. And I really like the idea of going to a tv station WITH NAMES. Talk to your bank too. I dont know about your money situation, but I work VERY HARD for 218. I would try every possible avenue b4 letting this go. And good luck. Oh, and ignore the idiots harping the "smoking" part of your story. Dumb*sses.

It there any news reporter you can call who fights for consumer rights? This might make a juicy story. Do you have a copy of the video tape? If not, see a lawyer.

WalMart is disreputable in many respects and the public should know about it.

Oh, yeah, between the video tape and your bank sttement, you have the truth.

Why does anyone need to buy a pack of cigarettes with a debit card? Whats wrong with good old fashioned cash??? Its sickening in todays society people use debit cards or write checks for $1.00,$2.00 or $5.00 items and tie up everyone else waiting in line. Also, every time someone uses any card that person just did a transaction which leaves a paper trail opening the door to identy theft. If you cant manage your cash, maybe a lesson like loosing $218.00 will assist you in learning to.

Secksy,

Call your bank and do a Regulation E claim.

Insist on it, they have to do this by law.

Regulation E protects debit card users in situations like this. You will get a provisional credit for the disputed amount back into your account while the investigation is being done.
