Hi you all, I have a question for all the deck builders out there.
I am trying to create a wood Deck but I would like to know if someone can give me an estimate about how much will cost ???
First I live in an apartment of a 3 family home and I am in the 3 floor, so the deck have to be from the 3 floor to the back yard in which is about 15 feet hight and I want to create with a stairs to go down to the back yard.
The size, I am planning to build will be 10' x 15' with the stairs which is a 15 feet hight.
I would like to know also if there are requiered any permits to do that. I live in NYC. Any opinion will be appreciated on this matter. Thank you

pressure treated deck boards, 2x4's for railings,4x4's or 6x6's for up rights,2x8's or 10's for frame, stringers and lumber for stairs, concrete for footers, stain and sealer, and hardware will run you around 1,000 to 1200 depending on your lumber selection. labor costs about 2500, permits 10 to 60 bucks, inspection costs 100 to 200 bucks, owners permission PRICELESS. you can also check lowes web site they have a project helper and calculator online which tells you how to do it and what you need and the cost. good luck

Certainly permits will have to be pulled, as well as getting permission from the owners. You don't state whether or not you RENT the apartment, or are there by the grace of the owners charity. No matter,,, THEY will have any liability issues for said Deck and stairs.
In NYC,,, You will pay a premium. If I was to construct that deck, and stairs for you, I'd pull the permits, but you'd pay for them. I'd likely bid the job at a week to complete @ $40 per hour for an 8 hour day. Plus you would be billed for all the materials, and any additional labor I had to enlist, at a lower per hour rate, for prep and cleanup issues, etc.
Again, more importantly than construction is having permission, then going to code enforcement and zoning to see if it's even a viable project.
The decking would absolutely have to be inspected, and would require railing around the perimeter, ledgers attached to a house you may not own, concrete footers, perhaps a double hand rail for the steps, etc. etc. etc.

I just built a deck 8x12 with 8ft 4x4s I went to lowes and every thing cost $250.00 including the wood sealer,(even though the wood was already sealed, yea right). I woud try lowes and compare. I didnt get a permit, no-one asked, but I bet in N.Y. you do, I would ask the landlord for sure, maybe he'll help pay for some of it, just tell him it will make an attractive addition, just dont tell him his property taxes will go up. you do know you cant take the deck with you when you move, it becomes the landlords property, like I said, make a deal with him and have him help pay, it might work, good luck.

NO . The pipeline is just for the oil companies to use the Texas refineries and then off to the world markets leaving the US with the pollution . Drilling permits have ot only resumed in the Gulf they have quadrupled in the last 10 years and thousands have been issued and set idle . There is no supply problem and demand is down . As usual the oil speculators are driving up prices this time using uncertainty in Iran as an excuse as we get very little oil from there and Britain hasn't bought Iranian oil in over a year . Price gouging and speculators are raping the US AGAIN. The US still exports diesel , aircraft fuel , and yes , gasoline . Spring is coming , love is in the air , bend over America .

go to your local Home Depot they usually have a deck design center they can help you out with a design and pricing of materials. You are best to check with your local municipality office in regards to building codes and permits. Don't know too much about Lowes if they have the same serviceas they are JUST coming into Canada but you could check with them if it more convenient.
