Whenever there is a serial killer, they show people on the news that are scared because it is happening near their area or state. These serial killers are killing a certain type of person, example: prostitutes, transients, people that are someplace they shouldn't be, etc. I understand that it doesn't make it right and having any killer out there is scary but personally I don' t get too scared of a serial killer who kills prostitutes at truckstops and so on because I know I don't fit the discription. I can understand if someone was killing nice quiet decent citizens on their way to church or school or whatever, but these same decent citizens shouldn't be scared in their neighborhoods when they don't fit the description of the type that is being killed. Concern I understand, but fear of being a victim, I don't.

I don't think that serial killers are as predictable as that. The guy who hunts for prostitutes at truck stops may be smart enough to realize that he's going to get caught if he keeps going to truck stops, and start to look for victims somewhere else. If he has a "thing" about prostitutes, he probably feels the same "thing" for any woman who he thinks behaves like a prostitute, whether she is or not. He might see you out on the street alone at night and think you're there because you're a prostitute. And then what would happen to you?

The serial killers that follow no 'type' are at least as prevalent as the ones who search for a 'type'. When will they deviate from past behavior as well? How about California's Night Stalker? He killed everybody. Manson killed all kinds of people. Son of Sam even deviated a bit. And my favorite, Zodiac, who just loved to kill and never got caught. Even Bundy killed all sorts of girls and finally a child.

Just because a serial killer has "only" killed people from one demographic, does not indicate that he will continue to kill people from that demographic only! The man who starts killing Truckstop Prostitutes, may decide the prey is too easy, and start killing women at gas pumps. Then he may branch out and kill their children, or their husbands, etc. Once a line like that has been crossed, there is NO GUARANTEE that it won't be crossed again and again and again.

You should be afraid of anyone that violent. They often change their choice victims if they get away with it for a long time. They start out with animals, then "graduate" to people. Someone tried to break into my house at 6:45 in the AM. They must have seen my roomie leaving & thought the house was empty. My dogs scared him off.

Do you really think that serial killers only kill transients and prostitutes?
Ever hear of Ted Bundy? or BTK? or Wayne Williams?

You're kidding, right? Um, serial killers aren't the most stable people on Earth. You know this, correct? So a serial killer could easily change his M.O.
Put it this way, would you let one babysit your kid, even if s/he isn't his "type?"
Don't think so.
