Slavery was evil, but it was a historical fact and books that describe the reality of a different time shouldn't be banned. The alternative is to bury our heads in the sand.

I am an English teacher and think it is so ridiculously stupid to ban that book. Banning the book does NOT mean that slavery didn't happen, people! How ridiculous and ostrich-like. With thinking like this, we should COMPLETELY ban ALL HISTORY BOOKS, too.

NOW--if we have issues with slavery, why not do a study on Huckleberry Finn in a colaborative unit with History class and teach how slavery was our nation's biggest and most shameful mistake. Just because we close our eyes does not mean we have effectively hidden the ugly parts of our past.

First of all you must look at the times 1800s, we live in the 2000s. A whole lot of changes have been made since then and every one that we need to answer slavery questions are dead. Are we going to ban
all history books that contain events of the Holocaust because it has mass killing and very cruel behaviors towards human beings? I do not think so. Are we going to ban Grapes of Wrath because it has people starving to death and killing for work and food? No. Lets just ban the bible since Jesus was mistreated and beat and hung on the cross to die. In fact lets have all books banned that have any kind of killing, mistreatment, or cruelty of any human, animal, or living creature. This would make for very exciting learning I think. Hope this helps,, Oh yeah I hear Roman history is pretty gruesome, lets ban that...Ive got my picket sign ready!!!!!

slavery in the south is just part of the stuff that has happened in the world. There are other things just as bad that happened to other people. I don't believe in banning books. If someone doesn't want to read it, they don't have to, but stop telling everyone else what to read. I am tired of people trying to take away our culture and history because they are offended
