I have pretty new goalie gloves but they already smell, really bad. Can I put dryer sheets in them? I mean, without hurting them?? I need these gloves to last for at least three years. If dryer sheets hurt them, what else can I do to disinfect and make them smell nicer????

i don't have any experience with hockey gloves whatsoever but, i was thinking............the reason they smell is probably due to your hands sweating. if this is the case, it makes sense to me that you could safely use some kind of foot powder like odor eaters or something along those lines. not only will it take care of the odor but it will help keep your hands cooler and prevent anykind of fugus that you might be setting yourself up for. makes sense to me. i would worry that dryer sheets may leave a residue inside the gloves that could cause inflammation or infection. bacteria does love to grow in dark damp areas, and the foot powder theory again makes sense to me. good luck with the stinky gloves, and hope you have a winning season !!!!!

You can get a cleaner at a sports store, especially if they are leather. A fabric softener sheet won't hurt them, but I can't see that it would help that much. If they are wet inside..you might want to try some Damp Rid put into the toe toes of two knee high stocking tied closed and put inside the gloves to dry out the sweat everytime you use them. But then I would still use the spray cleaner to clean and sanitize them every other time I wear them, and let them dry over night.

Good hockey suppliers sell a no-rinse disinfectant cleaner spray for your hockey equipment. Don't use too much though, and try to air dry your stuff immediately after each session.

After a while, the smell will seem quite nice, actually... :p

Smell is part of the aesthetics of the game. Why would you want them not to smell?
