I watched the Yankees-Tigers game on Thursday afternoon and watched Joel Zumaya fire the ball twice at 103 miles per hour, and am curious.

Zumaya has been clocked at 103 several times this year. He is accurate and frighteningly fast. He can paint the corners and his fastball has movement.

As far as I know, that is the fastest. But I do know that closer Bobby Jenks was clocked at 102 last year and I believe that when Randy Johnson completely splattered that pigeon/dove he was clocked at 101. You also have to realize that what is shown on the TV screen as "pitch speed" is not necessarily accurate. The ball park that the game is being played - I would say 60% of the time - has a different speed than what is shown on TV.

Zumaya throws very hard, the problem is that there are different kinds of Radar guns, Known to scouts as fast gun and slow gun, Guiness used a gun that is much slower (technology) than today's gun, do to the differences I believe that guiness does not register new records, my guess is that Zumaya would be close to 100 mph on the same gun as Nolan ryan

Rob Dibble of the Reds, once was pitching at around 100-101, but I am not sure how accurate that was. That was many years ago and he has since retired.

The Fastest Ever recorded was 88 Miles per Hour. anything faster then that they leave a trail of fire and dissapear....
