fear is a powerful motivator, abuse always escalates ... it is critical to get help as soon as possible. most abuse victims are afraid no one else would want them and that is what keeps them from reporting or seeking help. the truth is that the sooner they get help the sooner they become empowered and will beat the fear of oppression. I do think you are right that the fear of exposure, embarrassment, and punishment or lack of punishment to their "loved one" abuser does prevent some abuse victims from reporting or seeking help.

as a woman who has been though domestic violence , sometimes its a MUST that someone intervene .
someone can die in these situations, and they are also progressive usually anyway , it was in my case.
I needed it to be reported and it saved me from the jerk.
