I dont believe the Amish community would want material things.

In my humble opinion they would much rather you pray for them..

You can go to http://www.mds.mennonite.net/home... They have a fund set up to help with hospital - funeral expenses etc.
I happen to know the link that I listed is for real. If you do a little research you will find that this organization has helped people in need all over the world. A large portion of their funding comes from Amish and Mennonite people. I also know a lot of you won't believe me, but my parents were raised Amish in Ohio. Those of you who claim the Amish will accept no help from anyone who is non-amish don't know what you are talking about. I do know something about Amish ways! Most of my relatives are still Amish. There - It's off my chest and I feel a little better.

****EDITED TO ADD: Apparently, any donations sent to the Mennonite Disaster Service for the benefit of the Amish families, will be shared with the family of the killer. Personally, I wouldn't send them a dime.****

Lancaster County is within the viewing area of our local ABC affiliate. This excerpt is from their webpage (see link below):

"Amish do not carry health insurance and the families of the five surviving victims could face steep medical bills. Hospital officials declined Thursday to provide any information about medical expenses, citing the families' request for privacy.

Checks - with "Amish School Recovery Fund" written in the memo line - may be sent by mail to:

The Anabaptist Foundation
Nickel Mines School Victims Fund

or

Mennonite Disaster Service

Donations may also be mailed to:

I agree that money might not be the best option. However, a simple card or note with a small uplifting keepsake inside, I'm sure would be welcomed anywhere. You might check with a few of the churches in the immediate area to see if any gifts or expressions of sympathy are being sent.

They won't take donations.

They take care of their own.
