I get very angry when things don't work right, and I get impatient waiting for things to work. I sometimes don't finish what I start. Does anyone have any success stories with their homebuilt computers?

Well, consider the pros and cons....

You built it:
PRO
- You know whats inside and you can decide whether you will put in a cheap part or an expensive quality parts
- You get to choose what type of software to install
- You get to choose the type of box to use (They get pretty fancy and you can't find these fancy boxes from prebuilt machines)

CON
- If you ever get a system crash, you don't have a restore CD. You can't go back to "Factory Default" (Unless you backed it up)
- Sometimes, you'll want the best part and this adds up. You could end up with a $3,000 bill on a simple machine
- If you don't know how to do it, you could end up with a poorly performing PC because you don't know how to optimize the settings (I've seen many DIY where all they did was use the default settings instead of optimizing the settings)
- If you go with Microsoft, you must purchase your own full copy which could cost more than you think. If you go with Linux, its not too bad.

Your honesty is refreshing! I have been building systems for approximately 11 years now, the first one is the hardest. Its the one that will create the most fear. After that they are easy. Patience is the key, so from your question you will have to work hard when you build one to stay relaxed. Definitely worth the work, nothing like knowing you built your system from the ground up!

Of course, I have been building my own computer for the past 10 years. The fact is building your own computer gives you much more flexibility and control over the parts and configuration. It needs lot of patient, trial and error, especially for the first few times. Once you get over it. you be enjoying every single moment with your pc. Based on your description of yourself, the short answer would be, "No!".

Not trying to be mean but simply trying to protect yourself from the potential frustration and anger.

All the best!
