I am a woman and I think that when women fought for equal rights they went too far. We now have far more rights that men. We wanted equal pay for equal work, the same benefits as men, etc. We deserved all of these things but we still seem to want special consideration for being a woman. For instance, we want dinner paid for us, the door held open, help in doing things that we're not physically strong enough to do. But it extends past those things. Women usually win in custody issues, in two parent families, if there is a stay at home parent, it's normally the woman who decides who that is. We expect men to be the breadwinners, unless of course we choose to go out and work. Would you even give a man that choice? Really ladies, ask yourself this: if you went out on a date with a guy who said, "I want to stay home and raise children, bake cookies and join the PTA" how fast would you dump him? If this was his goal? But even if it isn't your goal, you'd probably respect a woman for having it. Don't get me wrong. I think we deserve equal pay for equal work, we deserve not to be abused, we deserve a hell of a lot better than what we got 20 or 30 years ago. But if you want true equality, you should think about what you'd expect from a man and what you'd give to a man, whether it be in the workplace, your livingroom or your bedroom. We're still searching for true equality, but I think men would like it too. If we work together, instead of against each other, we'll find it. When there's true equality, we won't have to ask the question you've asked. And we won't ask for more.

Because each person gives the system of gender inequality permission to exist and thrive as it does. Everytime someone says "because that's what girls do" or "boys will be boys" they are giving permission to systems of gender segregation and inequality.

Now, lets take a look at larger scale discrimination that is currently taking place:

Men have more privilege than men
women have more privilege than other genders
you probably don't realize their are other genders because you could be basking in invisable privilege if you are either a man or a woman.

That was for the gender front, now on to anatomical sex:
when it comes to sexism males and females are at the top of the hierarchy, while intersexes are classified as "diseased" "disordered" and existing with "conditions"

however, male, female, and intersexes are all natural biological occurances.

Why do you think "people" aren't treated equally in our society?
Because you, and I, and the other people posting here ARE society, and everything that happens in society can only happen with each person's permission creating a system. It is called the micro to macro concept, where micro is like a conversaton in a coffee shop, and the macro is the social justice system, education, religion, media, etc. in order to get to the macro, inequality must travel up the pyramid, starting at the base, you and I.

Because women have been dominant since the break up of the Patriarchal harems that our great ape fore bearers lived in for millions of years.
Technically women have retained all the privileges that they had in the past while usurping the rights that men had to keep a balance of power. This has put women in a totally dominant position over the last 30 years to the extent that we are now seriously considering allowing women the right to have men put in prison for being accused of rape w. no evidence whatsoever.
There is a backlash developing over child support issues; patently it cannot be right that under age boys can legally be forced to support women who illegally have children by them while 16 year old boys who have consensual sex w. under age girls can be imprisoned.
Fundamentally I believe the short answer to your question is that the women's rights movement had and has no interest in equality, what they have always espoused is superiority and privilege. I think men's best hope lies in the European courts ability not to be manipulated by political correctness to the same extent as nations and right and wrong not being subverted for any one cause in the long term.

Men and women are created differently. Like it or not, we are not the same. I don't think that means that one sex is better than the other, we are just different. Unfortunately, for centuries our differences have created inequality due to a patriarchal social structure. Although I still think of America as having a patriarchal structure, the treatment of women has greatly improved in the last century.

"Equally" is not the correct word to use in this question, if you think about it. In (almost) all species of animals, the males and females have differnt roles and a matching heirarchy of some sort. "Equal work for equal pay" is almost never a fair comparisson.

I think that in the U.S., females are not treated equally but proportionately better than males. Flame on, but please give details and I will be happy to respond (those who expect two months of salary to be wasted on a rock are simply Gold Diggers!!)

Its obvious why. The reason men are considered better is because they always have been. Men seemed superior due to the fact that they were more independent (back then, now they're the same) and men were created first

I am a woman who has grown up trying to impress my father (who wanted a son) & then my co-workers. I was a mail carrier on a street route for almost 20 years. One of my co-workers answered your question by saying "It's because I have one of these & you have one of those." It's hard to argue with that.

Because men are primarily the ones that hold positions of power, and they want to keep it that way.
