It seems to me that you can rule out A B and C
A - because that would be 5 x 15 = 75
B - You are not given enough information to know how many days or hours the painter worked
C- Area of a rectangle is L x W (I think?)
15 x 5 AGAIN
So that leaves D.
D. if Y = cost and X = 1 rose than
The cost of # roses at $5 per rose + $15 for the vase can be translated into Y= 15+ 5X

The answer here is D since the total cost (y) will be 5 times the number of roses (x) plus 15 for the vase

D because it's $5 times the # of roses, +15 for the vase

That would be (d). The vase is a constant cost of $15. The cost of the roses increases $5 with each rose you buy. So the total you pay for x roses is 5x+15.

The answer is d because x is a variable (meaning it changes) and since the number of roses one can buy changes so must the x and since each rose is $5 you must multiply the number of roses by the amount you buy and the vase is $15 which is a constant (the price doesn't change) so that is always added onto the price of roses you get.
So d)
hope you understand why, Music

The answer would be D. You multiply the number of roses (x) by $5. then you add $15 for the vase. y would equal the total amout you would pay. =)
