I'm using a different comp now...but my other comp is
Xp Home.
Somehow, when I was using Windows Messenger 8.5 Live Beta, a link popped up in a message and I accidentally clicked it.
Suddenly, a entire series of downloads began and I was unable to stop it.
A toolbar called 888 toolbar appeared, along with many other things I can't remember. My Windows Defender program went crazy with high alerts!
20 mins later, it opened messenger, opened a seperate browser per contact and typed the same message:
"It that you on -site name here-??"
The link leads to a key logger / virus site.

My Xp Home edition can only go to the black screen with a bar showing it's loading at the bottom. A moment before it should go to the userid page, it blanks out and restarts.
Help me please!

start/restart your machine, press F8 at the start
boot to safe mode with networking
run system restore to before you installed the program

if that doesn't work reinstall, if you lose data your bad for not backing it up

You may have to boot up the machine with a bootable floppy drive or CD and use one of the major virus/spyware removal software packages. I would do some research via google and find the specific applications that help clean out these problems. I've seen where you have to turn off the system restore because if you don't the machine will continue to get infected as the virus/spyware inserts itself somehow into the area where the restore information is saved and once you clean it and reboot it is back again.

Good luck

Go 2 safe mode (press F8 during computer startup) Safe mode is designed to look wierd and big. So don't get anxious. Again, in safe mode only basic necessities are loaded. So viruses or spywares cannot conceal itself. First run Windows Defender. See if it's gonna remove all those baddies,
Then try installing some good antispyware program like Spybot - Search and destroy from http://www.safer-networking.org and Lavasoft's AdAware SE from http://www.lavasoft.de . (Either do it in safe mode with networking option or Get the setup files of these writed in a disc and install it in your pc.). Update and run a full system scan (u may have to do update in safemode with networking)
99% ur pc's gonna be alright

As a last option try system restore.
