Explain 'burning mirrors' concept of Archimedem's time.

Hi. A large mirror with a long focal length would focus the Sun's rays on an approaching ship, setting it ablaze. Mush like a magnifying glass can start a fire with paper.

it is based in parabolic reflectors. it is like the satellite dish tha exhibits a very interesting features. all the incident radiation is reflected to a single point. where the LNB is. so what we achieve is to take all the energy from the power received and focuse it direct it to a certain point.

the same stant with the burning mirrors. it was wased to sunk ships mosthly. it was used to "gather" all the sun radiation and energy and the reflect it focused and" concentrated to a target. the target got hotter and hotter till it was self ignated and burned. some thing like lighting a fire with a magnifying glass.

You need to watch an episode of Myth Busters. He used the sun reflecting off of mirrors to catch objects on fire.
