knoxy: Nixon RESIGNED. You can't name a politician that hasn't "lied to the American people." I looked at your list, most of them were not elected officials, except Strom Thurmond who had a scandal in 1925. Nice try though.

Yes it's a partisan question. Good catch.

bush-deathgrip, here's your example:

Democrats don't need to resign after a scandal - especially a sex scandal. While media pundits from both sides will make hay out of a scandal like this when it involves the party they are politically against, Republican voters will fire Republican representatives for this kind of behavior and Democrat voters wont do the same for a Democrat representative - they just don't care.

Like Newt Gingrich? Ronald Reagan who was caught lying to the American Public? How about President Nixon? GW Bush? I mean, how many Republican Scandals would you like listed? How about a few here:

Could your question be any more partisan and one sided? Maybe this will give you a bit of an education, sweetie.

Do you mean like the way Dennis Hastert, Deadeye Dick Cheney, and Dictator wannabe George Walker Bush refuse to resign?

Because people have come to expect deviate behavior from Democrats. When a Republican starts acting like a democrat it comes as a shock to everyone. I'm surprised Gerry Studds hasn't filed a suit against Foley for plagerism.

These guys only resign when they are ordered to. That's because they made such a mess going way over the line that it couldn't be glossed over or covered up. The moral: don't get caught.

The Dems have no shame, self respect, or respect for the electorate. They don't care about voters, just keeping their snouts in the tax payers trough.
