My favorite current day players are:

Greg Maddux- So methodical, and studies the hitters sooooo much.

Vernon Wells- Has stated in several interviews that he loves signing autographs (and I sent him a baseball card 2 years ago, and he signed it and sent it back to me within 3 weeks)

Shawn Green- Unafraid to share his faith, and really tries to live in a way pleasing to God.

Craig Biggio- He'll play wherever you tell him to, and he has NEVER complained.

My all-time faves are:

Darrell Evans- My family are all Braves fans, and Evans was one of Dad's favorites.

Eddie Mathews- Same as Darrell Evans.

Willie McGee- One of the first "big name" players I ever met (when he was still playing in the minors in Nashville)

Don Mattingly- Same as McGee.

I always enjoy thinking back on these great players, and how much I looked up to them as a kid.

Chipper Jones - comes through in the clutch and carries the Braves.

Johnny Bench - best catcher of all time.

Pete Rose - while playing the game was the most intense player and heart of the Big Red Machine. all time hit king and example of what it takes to play baseball. Afterward was a different story though with his gambling problems.

Hank Aaron - the Hammer, dealt with racial harassment while becoming the all time HR king and dethroning the Babe. His contributions to the game in my opinion were greater than Jackie Robinson.

John Kruk - anybody that can answer a question like this is great.
A lady was noticing Kruk lighting up a cigarette and asked,

"What is an athlete doing smoking a cigarette? You should be setting an example for the kids."

Kruk replied, "Lady, I'm not an athlete, I'm a baseball player."

My favorite current player is Joe Mauer. I've met him, and he is just so humble and down to Earth, even though he's gotten so much publicity. Great catcher, great hitter, great eye.

Favorite all-time. Harmon Killebrew. Always was and still is a real gentleman. I wish there were more like him, especially for all these kids to follow.

Ty Cobb simply because of what he said about himself. Quote, "In all humility I am the greatest baseball player of all time." How cool is that to be confident enough to say that about your self?

Babe Ruth

The man hit all them homeruns before steriods, plus he was a pitcher, and drunk during games. The man was not an athlete but just man playing a game.
