If using Windows XP, hold down the Windows key (usually located at lower left of your keyboard) and hit the letter "l" (lowercase L). This will lock your system keeping unauthorized personnel out. Never heard of being able to password-protect an application. People usually want to lock their computer. If it's access restrictions you're after, I'd suggest a proxy server at the forefront of your network access.
