It's a browser hijack attempt. Don't worry. Most antispyware programs get rid of this. I suggest Spybot - Search and destroy from http://www.safer-networking.org and Lavasoft's AdAware SE from http://www.lavasoft.de
Update and run a full system scan. 99% guarantee. , . Also try running every scans (including AVG) in windows safe mode (press F8 during startup) In safe mode u can stop the running exe because only the basic requiements are loaded in safe mode.
Again there is a much powerful tool called hijackthis which should be used only if others fails, because it's a bit professional. Delete only bad entries u find (using google or forums find out which is bad) It shows many normal things in scan, which accidently deleted may actually screw things up.

And once you have got your computer cleaned using the advice above stop using Internet Explorer - Microsoft's highly efficient "Spyware and virus downloading tool"!!! Switch to Firefox instead --> http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/ instead. It is so much better and far more secure too. Popups, spyware and viruses picked-up from web sites will become a thing of the past.

i would advise installing, hijackthis
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html
do a scan, and untick the homepage, or any programs thats causing the problem restart the machine do a full scan of the machine using the AVG program. i would advise doing this in safe mode so the program is not active at all.

Sounds a re-formatting job to me if AVG won't kill it.
