This has been bugging me for a LONG time why don't people like heavy metal most answers I get are "because it's just a bunch of fags screaming the word hell to make people think there cool"
and thats not true if you actually look at the lyrics you will see that most heavy metal songs are about trust, betrayl, love, inner strength to take on life problems.

Most people don`t like it because they can`t play an instrument. Like Rap music for instants all they do is steal other peoples music to sample in the back gorund and rap around it. That`s not talent and it takes talent and skill to play Heavy Metal. Most people hear the music and don`t listen to the words or read them and that`s why they are so against it. But that`s what Heavy Metal`s about standing on your own and thinking for yourself, telling the world to stick it up there a s s !! Not about so much getting shot and having gold teeth and grabbing there balls and wearing there pants half way down there a s s!! Heavy Metal still around and has lasting power. How many people remember Rap songs from 10 years ago. None!!! Heavy Metal 10 years ago you had bands like Pantera, Slayer,Metallica,Dream Theater, etc . This is staying power!! Rap will never have that kind of staying power because it has no heart!! You can`t understand Heavy Metal until you pick up a guitar or a bass or get on a set of drums and try to create something or play something on your own!!

That depends on which variation of heavy metal you're speaking of. Circa 70s and 80s metal was campy and meaningless.

From you're question, I'm guessing that you're speaking of modern "heavy metal" or screamo, which is really more of a hybrid of metal and the hardcore scene of the 90s. If this is the case, I typically adore the lyrics but find the music itself (in most cases, anyway- I love From Autumn to Ashes and a few other select bands) grating and non-melodic.

I love the old heavy metal. I don't really care too much about the new heavy metal, but I really am from the year 77 and up. You never really mentioned what heavy metal you are talking about. So Hope that helps

Because the volume it is always played at is so intense that anyone with heart trouble is in jeopardy of having a heart attack if they don't go deaf first. It is also a LONG WAY from relaxing or soothing. Another reason is that no one can figure out what they are saying because they are screaming at the top of their lungs.

You are looking at someone who loves heavy metal... I went to the Ozzfest in 97 in Denver, saw Machine Head, Snot, Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth, ect... there, and I have also seen numerous bands in concert in Denver and Tampa, where I live now. But you have no idea how many people like it. You just need to go to ticketmaster.com, look for the soonest concert in your area, go there, and meet some people.. You will meet some cool friends.

f u c k those metal hating motherfuckrs! that is true that you look at the lyrics and you know what there talking about. you dont have to have a scary voice to be metal. and another thing that pisses me off is ppl calling it "satanic". most metal bands ar agnostic meaning they dont belive in heaven or hell. there are alot of song that sing about something else than religion like getting drunk and doing funny stupid stuff, sexual desires, sorrw, about life and other things. F U C K RAP!!!!!

to begin with you don't really have to be all that talented to scream at the top of your lungs into a microphone, and the music ( if you can call it that) is not hard to play. i play guitar quite well and anyone with two hands can play guitar well enough to play in a heavy metal band.

Some people just aren't into the sound. It's the same reasons people aren't into country, rap, boy bands, punk, jazz or classical for their own personal reasons. The reasons they give might be totally nonsensical (like the one you gave), but that's just because they can't really explain what their mind naturally tells them.

Its not the lyrics that bother me, its the screaming. Heavy metal gives me a headache at fifty paces. There seems to be no melody whatsoever, and no two instruments or voices make any attempt to harmonize. Dissonance can be nice, but there needs to be a release.
