Given that the US is one of many places that provide safe abortions it would stand to reason that the recorded number of abortions would be higher than underdevelopped nations where there is a higher rate of surgery related fatalities. But in the industrialized world the US is not the highest in either total number or per capita for abortions performed.

Depends on how you look at it, for instance in Uganda 1 out of every 5 pregnancies end with abortion. Now that's just sad. Has the world forgotten what a Trojan is? Abortion is now a form of birth control, gone are the days when abortion is for those that truly had an "accident" or someone was actually raped.
