My parents website has been online since 2004. It has a page rank of four(4). With about 50 other websites linking to theirs. Today, after about 7 months, I've been posting their link on 150 forums related to their field/keyword. This will not hurt their site and place in the google sandbox, will it?

Submitting links to most forums are considered spam, according to their rules and policies. Submit your link to free and paid link directories, write articles and place your link in the author bio, and exchange links with other related business websites...all of which will build your link popularity naturally.

If the site is from 2004 it is unlikely to get sandboxed http://www.seo-blog.com/google-sandbox.php. However forum links are pretty much useless for ranking purposes and it is better to spend you time getting one high quality link rather than 100s of poor ones.

Many forums don't help with transfer link power. The most you might get is traffic. You are not in the sandbox.
