I would say before, because alot of people plan to be out of town for both Christmas and New Year.

Personally, neither. You will have a hard time getting people away from their lives around the holidays. Plus things are so much higher, then not to mention weather depending on where you live. If I had to pick I would go with after, I think people would be less busy and allot of people get the week between Christmas and New Years off so that weekend may be easier to get to see it, but on the other hand those same people may do vacations that week so they may be away and unable to come.

After. Why are you planning so late? Considering that you are planning late it will be less of a shock to your guests if they are invited for after Christmas. Many people have their Christmas plans in place by now. And another way you will engratiate yourselves to your guests now is to give them something to post-Christmas shop for during all the great boxing day sales. You will even cash in on your wedding food because after the big Christmas feasts the stores slash prices on food big time. Also alot of decorations and party wear will be on sale. You can go on shopping sprees getting things 50 to 75 per cent off. Even Christmas cakes are sold of cheap after Christmas, this can be your wedding cake. In my family after Christmas there is always a lull where we sit and stare at each other and wonder what do we do now after all this exaggerated hype to the climax of Christmas Day. Well you will give people the perfect next thing on the agenda. Otherwise in the lull they may just sit around and talk about how you rushed in a wedding just before Christmas.

I would have it the weekend before. People are busy on Christmas and New Years. The weekend before would be a nice break for your guest.

I think the week after-- sort of continuing the holiday spirit, plus the week before Christmas a lot of people are doing last minute shopping & traveling.

I think after because everyone is so stressed out before and busy trying to get Christmas stuff done that you may not have as many people come as you would after Christmas.

either way it will be tuff on all..... with the holiday rush before and after, but, you could make your wedding Christmas for your family... make sure they know that you do NOT expect gifts per say for the holiday , but that the wedding is the act of celebration.... the added burden to pocket books and budgets should be taken into account... sorry, but these days, ya know how it is.. God bless
