Basically...no. At least that's the right thing.
But, if I had cheated on my husband, and worse, poor guy had seen pictures or videos of that, I would expect and understand a slap or two. Nothing that should sent a person to a hospital, just a quick release of anger.
Of course then if the woman can prove that her husband hit her, he is in trouble.
Cheated and in trouble.Wow...

No.

But maybe in France. Murder cases involving love triangles are considered defencable as a crime of passion. something about its place in the Napoleonic Code, the legal foundation of the Franco societies in the Western world. For example, the Quebec legal system recently changed after 350 yrs to match with the English common laws of Canada.

If one hits or even kills their spouse immediately upon discovering the affair then there is a defense available. It is called provocation. Quikspen said the uncle slit his wife's throat and beat it in court and that's probably correct. One would be arrested for the act, yet would be able to argue there was significant provocation to lessen the degree of guilt.

Hitting IS ABUSE! Cheating is wrong though - but the answer is for the wife to be kicked (not literally) to the curb and never let back in.

No, the physical abuse should not occur for that reason. He can be charged with assault. Hitting her is physcially abusing her no matter what she has done.
He should simply file for divorce. If he has proof that she cheated, he could use it in court. Resorting to violence would ruin his life further.

Can a husband hit his wife

The husband is not allowed to hit his wife. He has to go to civil court. Most probably they will stick up for the husband.

If your husband hit you, even if he has proof of you cheating, you need to go to the police. You also should have some time seperated (maybe legally, but I mean geographically) to cool down.

Of course, he can hit her. The problem is, even when she is committing adultery, it is a crime to hit her. So, if he hits her, he is subject to being arrested, and having a domestic violence conviction on his record, which, for example, precludes ever carrying a firearm, even if he is a cop.

My response is for the US. In the other English speaking countries, they can't carry guns anyway.
