I think he has realized that he let a really great person go (or you made him go...lol). I would take it as a compliment because he has realized that you kick @ss and you were the best he would get.
I don't think he meant to be rude, just wishes he could take back his stupidness.

I am just going to repeat... He is at a point where he is finally realizing that he made a mistake with you. Tell him "I am married and I hope you figure it out sooner with the next one. My husband and I both think there was a reason you are an ex of mine." :-p I LOVE laughing about ex's with my wife.
