The real question should be why there is a market for media that exposes misfortunes. The media profits only because we buy it. If anyone wanted to sell the video of Steve Irwin getting attacked they would be an instant multi-millionaire because when it gets on TV, everyone in america will have their eyes glued to the screen.

This is now they sell papers. The sad truth these days is that the media is dodging those stories that should be brought to light. They are lockstep in line with the administration and the corporations. Our history is ripe with examples of when the media exposed the truth. Those were proud times, not today though.

No, but it does.
Modern mass media outlets are commercial enterprises first, responsible journalists a distant second.
I question their protections under the Constitution. They should be no more free from legal sanction and investigation than a Walmart or an oil company.
