My husband has worked in this field for over 25 years, and he is a good worker but he is trying to pass A1 - A8, and the T series exam to get his master in both cars and trucks. He has taken these exams twice and was unable to pass all of them. He has only passed two exams out of all 10 or 12. He has gone to a community college for a year and he was an "A" student in both the trucks and autos but he is still not able to pass these exams. Apart from the ASE preparation books are there any school that "just prepare student for ASE" or are there "auto book" or video, or a special that just deal with ASE per test? Please give me detail information please.

A little hint from someone who worked in the field of trucks and cars for over 30 years and then had to retrain for SMOG tech after physical injury.
1) Don't over-think the question. After thoughtful consideration, the first answer he checks is most likely the right one.
2) There are only 4 possibilities listed. Remember the instructions; the most likely or most correct answer. It is very easy to look back on all of your experience and rationalize the answer, then look at it again and think "Nah, that can't be..."!
The MOST correct answer to the question as stated.
3) When in doubt, work backwards, in other words eliminate the most wrong answer. That is usually pretty easy. Sometimes much easier than trying to see the correct answer.
Now, there are only three possibilities. Eliminate the next most likely wrong answer.
Now he is down to just two, and as a general rule, the picture is quite a bit clearer now.
At worst, if you have to GUESS, (Aarrgggghh) you have at least a 50-50 chance of guessing right, and if you weight the question with your experience, you can get pretty close to right on.

TRY THIS---->

Using one of the test prep books, secure a packet of Scan-Trons (Community College book store or(?)) and if you must photocopy them and then practice taking the test by the elimination method.
And then correct the tests with the answers listed in the back, and see how well he does.

There is no real sense in buying any more prep books, unless you are so familiar with the questions that they don't help anymore.

One last observation--
Remember the point of the test is to demonstrate your fundamental grasp of the subject matter, both theory and "real world".
Read the question, even if he has to reduce the question down to simple phrases to gather what it is that they want of him.
There are no trick questions, but they are sometimes worded in such a way as to lead you into a mousetrap.
Remember the driver's license question about what is legal to fall from the load of your truck; Clean clear water and
A) sand
B) gravel
C) feathers from a live bird
D) leaves
Someone not thinking would probably not understand that the answer is "C", nor would they know why this is the correct answer.
Think your way through the question, but don't over-think the answer.

Good Luck

He might try to get ASE exam questions ( can be found just about anywhere) and practice. He might get brain freeze when he is in the exam room. If he can relax, concentrate on only one question at a time, skip ones that he is not sure about, go back to then later and be prepared he might do OK. Here in Canada, there is a pre test course but where you are, I don't know.

i dunno those tests are har di have 5 of the 8 and im taking the other 3 soon. there is a school that trains you just on ASE tech stuff, and the books are good i used the book for the a8 test and aced it, they are a ***** you just have to study hard and im sure since he has great exp. if he studies he should be fine, and tell him not to feel bad Ase tests are hard and even the best mechanics can fail them, they have alot of trick ? and stupid questions also. but yea here in Va we have the school for ase its based out of the comm college you should check into it, but the ase books that ase sells are good.
good luck.

to get the certificates without taking the try is a shame to all persons who're valid ASE qualified people. i wish you're found out and are barred from ever taking the try, LOSER!
