If the plug (not electric, the other one) is big about 2 inches long with 25 pins, you have a parallel interface. See if the computer has something the same size, or check your receipt from Dell. You would have had to ask for it, because they don't automatically give you one. If you have a parallel printer and no parallel port on the PC, you have to buy a new printer. There's no way to adapt it.

Its pretty simple, you will have to hook up the printer to the back of your computer and then turn it on, your computer should recognize new hardware installed and find a suitable driver for it if you are using Windows XP.

If you are not using XP you will need to go to the home page of Lexmark and once there on top right you will see drivers and downloads. Scroll down the list and choose your printer, choose your operating system and download that driver. It is very simple.

Hope this has helped you out.

First download the Z12 drivers if you don't have them:

http://downloads.lexmark.com/cgi-perl/downloads.cgi?ccs=229:1:0:282:0:0&emeaframe=&fileID=534&searchLang=en&searchLang=en

Double-Click the downloaded file on your computer to expand it.

Plug your printer in, turn it on and when asked for the drivers click the 'Have Disk' button. Click the Browse button and go to the folder where you expanded the downloaded file. Lexmark Z12 Color Jetprinter should appear. Choose Next. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Good luck:)

If you have the correct cable you should be able to plug in the printer, turn it on, and have Windows recognize it automagically.

You can use the cable that you had on the old computer as long as it plugs into the new computer. It's either a USB plug or a parallel plug. The USB ports on the new PC are probably on the front and you can use any of them. If the cable has 25 pins on the plug then it's a parallel cable and you need to look on the back of your PC for the corresponding spot to connect it. You can't plug it in backwards - if it fits, then it is the correct spot.

You will need the print drivers for your old printer. Go out on the Internet to the WEB page of the manufacturer for your old printer, check the download to see if there is a WIN XP driver for your printer.

If not, then put your printer model in GOOGLE search
(your printer name XP driver)
May be you will find a XP driver on the Internet. If you find one, then connect your old printer to your computer and install the XP print driver for your old printer.

Does it have usb? they are pretty easy to install, just plug it in while the computer's on.. If it has the older 25 pin cable attach it with the computer off and then boot up. If you need drivers go to the lexmark site and download them. Just go to this page and click on the OS your have winxp etc to download a driver. These drivers are .exe files so they are easy to install...just double click on it.

the cable connection should be the same...look for the cable you used with the old computer and look for a compatible connection on your new computer.
