You are correct, you need to do some computer maintenance. Follow the advice above - do a disk cleanup, defragment the hard drive, get an anti-spy program and run it. To start.
Disk cleanup: Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Cleanup.
Defragment: same place as above, choose Disk Defragmenter
Google Lavasoft AdAware, find the site, find the free AdAware Personal Edition SE. download, install , run it....

Delete all cookies from your internet browser and all temporary files.
Do a scandisk and a disk defrag.
Make sure you perform virus scans at least once a week and check for spyware (spybot is a great free program) at least once a week.
Disk defrags and scandisks should be done once a week as well.
If all of this doesn't make any difference whatsoever, I would get the computer looked at. You should have at least a one year warranty on it.
Good luck!

If you just bought it then it's still under warranty. Don't download programs that claim to fix problems because you may void your warranty and cause yourself more problems. Get with Compaq and give them a chance to help you. You might spend a lot of time on hold but it should be worth it.

I believe, it is only about your Browsing Speed... please check with your ISP (Internet Service Provider) = If your speed is just within the range of what you're paying for, then ask the Tech Representative to walk you through the process of Deleting all the Cache, Cookies, Temporary Files, and History... so you will have a FASTER CONNECTION SPEED.

you didn't noticed if you have anti virus software or not . sometimes it happens because of the viruses in your computer . but if you have a good one and you are sure that it is not the problem try to setup a new windows . i mean delete this one and reinstall . and if it is possible format the windows hard drive . good luck !

Right click on My Computer. Go the Properties. At the bottom of the General tab, see how much memory (RAM) you have. If it less that 500MB, that could be the problem.
