2006 – Upon Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s announcement of the establishment of the Kadima Party, Olmert resigned from the Likud and stood by Sharon’s side ahead of the elections.
On Wednesday 04.01.2006, following Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s hospitalization, Olmert was charged with the duties of Prime Minister.
On Thursday 05.01.2006, the Government assembled for the first time under the leadership of Minister Ehud Olmert as Acting Prime Minister with all Prime Ministerial authorities.
On Tuesday 28.03.2006, elections were held for the 17th Knesset, and the Kadima Party, headed by Ehud Olmert, received the largest number of seats (29).
On 14.04.2006, one hundred days passed after Prime Minister Sharon was rendered temporarily unable to fulfill his tasks as Prime Minister. In accordance with the Basic Law: Government, the Government resolved that Minister Ehud Olmert would serve as Interim Prime Minister from that day.
On 04.05.2006, Olmert was sworn in at the Knesset as Prime Minister.

he lived, but I don't think that he stayed prime minister. He might still be, but not for long. He was Israel's prime minister.
