That is more than likely a loose connection inside if an external keyboard is recognised and the whole of the keyboard is out, laptops are by their nature prone to loose connections.

what happens when u press the fn key + what ever key it is to use external.??
when u turn the laptop on, without the external, it says press does that key work?
if so then its a problem on windows and thats rather tricky to fix i would advise a repair of windows using the cd
