First of all, you need to know your body very well.

You should start out SLOWLY!!

Do only as many as your body can handle at one time, even if that means one a day.

Work yourself up in weekly increments.
That means if you are up to five sit ups, do that for one week.
The next week do six or seven.

Never EVER increase yourself by the tens.

That would be suicidal!! Your body will tell you when your over doing it.

Your stomach will cramp and you won't be able to move.

You'll wake up in the middle of the night with the worse cramps you've ever had in your life.

As far as how long it will take before you show any results, this will depend on your body.

You should start seeing results around the third time you increase how many you do.

You'll notice your stomach will be more defined around the sides and your center will look tighter as well.

Also, you'll notice an increase in energy and strength. When you go to do acrobats, your balance will be alot better as well.

If you are trying to increase strength, try lifting weights along with your sit ups using the same technique I described above.

Also try doing legs exercises. Put one leg out to the side and hold it as long as you can.

Again, your body will tell you when you're over doing it.

You will begin to shake uncontrollably.

When this happens, STOP!!

Go to the next leg and repeat. Always time yourself so you are doing the same amount of time on each leg. As with the sit up, only increase your self in small increments of a few minutes each week.

When you're doing exercises, remember, it's not what or how much the OTHER guy is doing, you do what's right FOR YOU!!

The only way to know that is LISTEN TO YOUR BODY, IT KNOWS WHAT'S IT'S TALKING ABOUT!!

GOOD LUCK!!

I did track and cross country for 4 yrs.
It's going to depend on your body type, but no matter what, you can't just do sit ups. You have to either run, or speed walk~ do any cardio to burn any fat on your tummy. Even if you're doing crunches, it won't burn the fat. It'll tighten your muscles, but you might not be able to see it happening!!
Run/do cardio for about half an hour. (stretch first!!) then do a set of 20 crunches, a set of 10 push-ups (or however many you can handle) and a few sets of any other excersise. Repeat2-4 times. It will take awhile!! Make sure you look at the ceiling when you're doing your crunches too, not off to the side!

do about 500 reps a day for immediate results and make sure your not eating sugar! becuase that will cause you to dehydrate and hold the weight. no fried foods either, you know the drill. just keep pushing yourself and you will see an improvement. remember you get what you give and if you give it your all you will get the results that you hope for. i hope it works out!

Do you enjoy doing set-ups?

This is the key to sucess ... enjoy them, bring Jesus with you ... say prayers before you eat ... and use logic in the foods you eat & amount of exercise. Sometimes you have to learn to play with set up's and make little goals/ games to keep you motivated. God bless.

girl,it's going to take sometime if you are doing push ups. and not only MIGHT it work, but you will also be MUSCULAR. sit-ups are not the best. you can do other abdominal activities, for starters, belly dance when you can,try roll-ups....etc. but you have to be patient if doing sit-ups.
good luck though.

do as many as you can. although you can do hundreds a day, but if your carrying fat around your stomach, then you wont see a difference at all untill you lose your weight. It will only tone the muscel underneath, so if you have fat then the toned muscel wont show through
