What does lines 5-7 of "I knew a woman" by Theodore Roethke mean or represent. They are:

Of her choices virtues only gods should speak,
Or English poets who grew up on Greek
(I'd have them sing in chrus cheek to cheek)

Well, I'll assume that the third word is "choice."

Basically, only gods and learned poets should speak about her good qualities, or "choice virtues." The last part I believe is just added for humor and rhyme purposes, and that these gods and poets would be singing her praises together.

I'm assuming (not having the rest of the poem) that this poem is in praise of a particular woman. Perhaps Roethke is saying that lowlier beings are not worthy of saying such things about her.
