I have been to China reicently and they are getting better, but it's a gradual thing. It won't change overnight.
I believe as they become more 'westernized' Human rights will be on the forefront of most peoples minds.
The main problem seems to be that the people in the villages do not have a voice which people can listen to.

The US will always support China, there is much to gain economically. Many US companies have their goods manufactured there at a fraction of what it would cost in the US. As far as the human rights issue, the US has bigger concerns than that, this kind of things are left to human rights advocates.
