Helloween is also another good German band....I'd say they sound pretty similar to Maiden. And Rob H is right, those norwegian(sp?) black metal bands are definitely some of the most heavy out there. Stuff like 1349, Emperor, Dissection(Swedish) are some other kicka** bands.
