I am 18 years old, and for the past week, I have been having tightness in my chest, feeling like I can hardly catch my breath or my lungs are just not expanding, and now I am having pain in my left lung...

I am so scared!!! Does anybody have an idea of what this could be???

instead of waiting for your symptoms to worsen why don't you just go see a doc? You might have some respiratory disease....see a doc....infact...you could just run to the emergengy room and they will see you quickly if they think its something dangerous.

It's still possible it could be stress so don't rule that out completely. I never in a million years would have suspected my chest pain to be caused by stress because it didn't feel the way it had in the past but discovered that it actually WAS stress.

It could also be asthma or possibly even walking pneumonia. Have you been feeling ill at all? Best go see a doctor. You really need someone to listen to your lungs.

Sounds like a health problem and you should see your doctor. It could be a number of things like asthma, allergies, or bronchitis. Do you smoke? If so that could be part of the problem. If you don't smoke my guess is asthma. It can come on when you never had it before. My son got it at 12 yrs old for no apparent reason other than he got a cold. He learned to control it on his own and then he did not need medication. Some people are prone to it so ask if anyone in your family has it. You may need an inhaler until you can control it properly.

Nope - but clearly it is not right. I had areal tightness in my chest a couple of years ago, combined with a feeling that my lungs were only working at half capacity...felt horrible.

Went to the docs and it turned out it was a lung/ chest infection. A course of anti-biotics got me sorted.

I suggest a visit to your doctors.

Too many possibilities for any guesses here.. Can be anywhere from early asthma to collapsed lung. May only be twisted ribs.. Need to have it checked out so you can ease your mind a bit.

I've had that before. Sounds like stress/anxiety. See a doctor for sure. I did.

I suffer from allergy induced asthma, but there are other types of asthma, check with your doctor. Sounds like the same symptoms.
