the third degree about going through with it. Saying there's too much danger involved...what do you think? Anyone have this done to their children? Any bad outcomes? Thanks!

I have never had tubes in my ears, but I did have my adenoids removed. I was fine and it took only about 45 min.

Usually an adendectomy (forgive my spelling) is done jointly with a tonsillectomy. He probably has very large adenoids.

My daughter had this done. She had her adenoids removed & the tonsils removed at the same time. Because she couldn't eat & breathe at the same time, her adenoids & tonsils were so large.

The tubes in the ears will give you no grief. The procedure takes a few minutes. There really isn't a healing process, just keep the ears dry. The hospital should give you ear tubes for baths - if they don't just swap a bit of vaseline on a cotton ball and it works fine. Sometimes they'll pop out and you'll get a little bit of blood, so watch for that. They do pop out.

My daughter was given 2 weeks to heal from her surgery, she was fine within a few days. The only problems, was when she woke up from the surgery & felt the stitches, and a week later when they healed (they itched). This was all from her tonsils, and she had no effects with the adenoids. Except that she could breathe better - and eat without problems.

Your son obviously needs the surgery done. For very good reasons. I don't see much of a danger - there is a slight one with the anesthesia, but there are many many precautions that are done & many things that are in place, for if a problem arises. There is nothing to worry about.

My kids have had tubes (many times), tonsils out, adenoids out. If they didn't need to have these things done, no one would have suggested it to be done. And, it's always done for the better. To either help a sick child, or help a child feel better all around.

If you have any doubts or questions, it is best to contact your doctor or nurse and get the answers you need before the surgery. I had my tonsils and adenoids removed when I was 10 years old. A little sore t hroat, but otherwise it made me much more healthy. I no longer had the tonsilitis every few weeks. My granddaughter had tubes placed in her ears when she was about 2 years old. They took her to surgery in a little red wagon. She was chattering at the nurses and didn't even realize when her mother and I split off from them at the surgery door. When she came out, she was a little fussy from the anesthetic, but never had much problems with ear infections after that. Of course, we had to be careful when bathing her to keep water out of her ears until they were healed. And she couldn't go swimming for a couple of summers. The tubes fell out on their own, which they are supposed to do, and she is healthy and happy today. I wish I would have had my son's ears done when he was little. He had many ear infections, and has permanent hearing loss from not getting it corrected. If your doctor feels this is best, it probably is. You can always get a second opinion first from another doctor. Perhaps your mother needs to come to the appointment also and get her questions answered. Before you sign the consent for the surgery, be sure you understand what is going on, the risks, and possible outcomes. The doctors expect it and would rather have you ask now than wait until time for surgery. I'd check on it tomorrow.

My son had it done this past April. He was 5 at the time, and he's had no problems at all.He was up and running and playing about an hour after it was all finished. If it had been done sooner, he may not have the little problem with speech now. Due to his not hearing correctly due to the fluid, some letters he has trouble with. As long as you trust his doctor, go for it. You'll be doing him a favor in the long run. Just be prepared for when he comes out of anesthesia, they're freaked out and almost nothing will calm them down. And look into getting him some custom ear plugs done, it helps alot. Also, for a little while after he has it done, there will be a lot of discharge. Keep an eye on him for a temperature and all that stuff. Your doctor should go over everythig with you when he has it done. Best wishes to you, your little guy should be fine!

Chronic ear infections can cause hearing loss, so it's a good thing that your doc opted to do it now. My son had about 6 a year, no matter what we tried. I wish they would have done his sooner, he couldn't hear things right for almost 2 years. His speech has suffered because of it, but he is doing better!

Unless he has a history of strep throat/throat infections as well, there is no reason to remove the tonsils. A tonsillectomy is a MUCH more complicated surgery than tubes/adenoids. It has a 2-3 week recovery time and the child is in a lot of pain and there is a risk of bleeding, etc. Tubes and adenoids is a quick 10 minute procedure, with no recovery time or pain afterwards. A doctor will do all three if its warranted....

It is best to get the advice of an ENT Specialist to have this done on an infant at 10 months old. They only perform this type of procedure if its an emergency and yes there can be complications such as perforation in the ear drums, massive hearing loss the child may become def, when a child has adenoids taken out they may never be able to swallow there food again and have to most likely use a feeding tube Iam not trying to scare you out of this procedure but I want you to get second and third opinions before going through with it on such a young child. I had my adenoids and tonsils taken out when I was 7 or so Iam now 35 and have had tempo plasty done on my right ear I also have to be fitted for hearing aides and have speech problems I Speak from experience physicians wont tell their patience these things because they want to avoid a law suit now and days so please choose wisely for your child's sake god speed

There is nothing wrong with this, my daughter was 3 months old when she had her first tubes, then she kept getting ear infections, then at 22 months she had her adenoids out and another set of tubes, shes 6 now and perfectly healthy. This is not dangerous at ALL. Tell your mother to stop putting bad thoughts in your head. He will be FINE...

My son had tubes in his ears just over a year ago. If you don't get the tubes done your son could lose hearing, be constantly sick with ear infections, become immune to antibiotics from having to take them so regularily and have a host of other problems because of the infections! It was a 10 minute procedure and he has not had an infection since! His first tube came out last week (this is normal) and I am sooo glad that he had the surgery!

My son had it done when he was a year old. He had to have a second set put in when he was 7 and he also had his adnoids taken out. He's now 11 and no ear problems. He does still snore though. My youngest daughter is having tubes put in on the 18 of October. Tell your mom that you are doing what's best for your child and if she doesn't approve, too bad. Good luck!!

My now 4 yr old daughter had bilateral tubes put in her ears when she was 10 months old too. Your son may be cranky after the procedure, but thats mostly from the anesthesia, they dont like it, or at least Maddi didnt. The whole procedure will last maybe 30 min tops! She is perfectly fine, NO MORE EAR INFECTIONS!
He will be fine!
